Summer Wedding Tablescapes: More than a Centerpiece

Summer is all about vibrant colors and natural elements. This time of year is perfect for both outdoor and indoor weddings, with endless table decorating options. 

Take advantage of brightly colored linens, natural fiber runners, and centerpieces that incorporate elements like seashells, starfish, and driftwood.

Summer flowers may include more unusual selections such as dahlias and peonies, or traditional carnations, roses and daisies.

When I think of summer, I think of swimming pools and the beach.

For your table, a small sandbox filled with a bit of beach sand, toy beach umbrellas and beach chairs, a beverage glass with a cocktail umbrella, swim goggles, nose plugs, and snorkel complement the swim theme.

You could also use a small life-saving ring with a potted summer plant in the center, and include nautical white rope as a table runner connecting all the centerpieces.

More fun table decor ideas include signs with a few lines from familiar Caribbean songs.

"No Shirt, No Shoes, No Problem" and "Fun, Fun, Fun 'til Daddy Takes the T-Bird Away" are summer fun songs.

Okay, these are from years ago, but the idea stands, and you will think of more modern tunes.

Use wooden signs, small table-size chalkboards, or whiteboards with markers to write the summer song message.

You can also leave a note inviting your guests to write their own summer fun sayings on color-coordinated sticky notes to post on a board, or they can write on the chalkboard.

Summer brings to mind convertibles, beach towels and beach blankets, sunscreen, sophisticated and wild, crazy sunglasses, and flip-flops.

These all make great table decor.

If your wedding is outdoors, use small table umbrellas, handheld pretty fans, or battery-operated handheld fans on the tables. 

Your guests may want to pick one up if the heat rises.

Faux birds, bird nests with colored candy eggs, and personalized garden flags are in keeping with the summer theme.

Malibu Barbie and Ken accessories can be great conversation starters and centers of interest for the kids as well.

Final Thoughts

Summer is a great time for a wedding. Many of your guests will want to combine your celebration with vacation time.
